A Better Life Recovery Review
A Better Life Recovery is located in the beach community of San Juan Capistrano, California. It offers male-only residential treatment and sober living facilites along with an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The programming incorporates the 12-step philosophy and well as evidence-based treatment via both group and individual therapy. Clients can expect individualized treatment that focuses on addiction and co-occurring disorders on a step-down basis.
Accommodations and Food
The beautiful, two-story homes where both the inpatient and sober living facilities are situated are on a quiet residential street in a family friendly neighborhood. The spacious, upscale accommodations offer both private and semi-private with between six and eight clients per home. The rooms are fully furnished with either a queen or full sized beds, dressers and ample storage space.
There are three full bathrooms and a state of the art kitchens with new stainless steel appliances and mounted TVs. The living rooms offer large couches and chairs situated in front of fireplaces, and one with an entertainment center with flat screen TV’s complete cable and game console. The spacious homes also have a study with desks, dining rooms, front and back patios. The backyard spaces are private and enclosed with a small pool, sun decks and umbrella covered tables.
While in residential treatment all food and snacks are provided and prepared by staff. Once clients move into the sober living house they are have some meals provided, but typically begin to work and buy food for themselves.
Treatment and Staff
Those in the residential program are not required to begin their treatment already clean, and if needed the facility is able to refer them to a detox facility that A Better Life works closely with before admittance. Programs are typically around 90 days with the first 30 being the most intensive with clients only focusing on recovery and the following 60 days moving into the sober living residence, working their programs and beginning to acclimate themselves back into their communities. A typical day would include an early morning wake up followed by an on-site AA meeting, then departing to the IOP facility which is off site for about five hours, and ending the day with a support meeting or group session.
The programs emphasize balance and accountability and offer several different therapy approaches with multiple disciplines. Daily group and individual sessions address past experiences that may have led to the use of alcohol and drugs, and works backwards. CBT, relapse prevention, anger management and coping skills are regularly discussed, in addition to finding joy in recovery, addressing relationships with family and loved ones, improving basic life skills like managing money, health and nutrition and employment coaching.
The staff includes a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians with accreditations like CATC, CDC, MFT, LPC and Drishti Yoga Instructors.
Extras
Clients have frequent sober excursions as well as a gym membership to 24 hour fitness where they work out on a daily basis. Sober activities include bowling and movie nights, trips to the beach, golf and surf lessons.
