417 Recovery Review

417 Recovery of Orange County, California’s Mission Viejo, offers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18. Programming aims to help those who are struggling with substance abuse, addiction and co-occurring disorders. Treatment incorporates individual and group therapy, medication management and psychoeducation for both clients and their families. The intensive individualized care focuses on each client’s specific needs and also incorporates 12-step recovery principles.

Treatment and Staff

Clients begin treatment after a comprehensive assessment with staff and their family to decide the best course of action. The programs are multi-faceted and include a variety of group therapy options in addition to regular individual sessions. Typically, programming in the IOP is between three and five days a week for about three hours at a time. There is a step-down program with less time in therapy as the clients progress through treatment.

Groups are often gender-specific and combine education, anger management and coping skills. There are also weekly multi-family counseling sessions along with education-based groups specifically for parents. The weekly individual sessions focus on the client’s specific needs and medication management. Medicine is monitored weekly, and there are also regular, random drug tests issued throughout treatment.

Treatment includes elements of the 12 steps, CBT and DBT, in addition to Motivational Interviewing (MI) and holistic approaches. With the treatment philosophy being truly individualized, the staff tailors approaches per clients’ needs.

The well-rounded staff of 417 Recovery includes a mixture of LMFTs, CADCs and LPCs. It also employs a Master’s-level psychologist, a psychiatrist and a medical director.

Extras

417 Recovery offers an innovative pharma-genetic testing tool that takes a cheek swab to assess the client’s genetics and determine what medication would work best with each individual’s chemistry in order to garner the most effective results. There is also an alumni program for graduates who have the opportunity to help guide newer clients.

In Summary

The IOP at 417 Recovery aims to address not only the client’s recovery needs but also educate and provide their families with skills to help their children remain sober. Additionally, the individualized nature of the program takes into account both the age and developmental level of each client.
