The 36th Ave. Sober Living house is a four-bedroom, two- and-a-half bathroom house located in the heart of San Francisco. Part of the TLC Sober Living network, it provides a family-like living environment in which residents derive support from each other in sustaining a sober way of life. Just blocks from Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach, the 36th Ave. house is ideal for those who work in or near the city. It is also within walking distance of AA meetings, restaurants and theaters.
Accommodations and Amenities
The house, which is co-ed, has four spacious bedrooms and three full bathrooms and accommodates 13 people. There are three to a room, with four in the downstairs master suite, which has its own bathroom. The rooms are furnished with twin beds, a shared dresser and closet. As with all TLC Sober Living houses, the décor is upscale, contemporary and comfortable.
The house is three-story walk-up with floor to ceiling windows on the main level and a secure gated entrance. The retro exterior sets this house apart, with its patina window frames, brick inlay on the lower half and pale pink stucco. The interior layout is beautiful with a large living and dining room.
Amenities include plasma screen TV with cable, a computer station with high-speed Internet access and free local and long distance phone service. The laundry room is adjacent to the kitchen, soap and fabric softener are supplied. The house also supplies all cleaning products, paper goods (in addition to coffee). and kitchen items. Residents are responsible for their own food and meal preparation, which can be done in the renovated kitchen with modern, stainless steel appliances.
There is a house manager on the premises seven days a week to ensure rules are followed and chores are completed.
Rules and Regulations
All clients must keep their rooms clean and be ready to start their day by 9 am. They have house chores which rotate weekly and mandatory house meetings at 9 pm on Sundays and Thursdays, which are facilitated by the house manager.
Clients who work are expected to attend either three to four AA or NA meetings weekly and to also have a sponsor. Those who do not choose to follow the 12-steps must participate in some form of outpatient and be working with a counselor. Residents who do not work or go to school must either attend three 12-step meetings each day or be active in another from of recovery and all residents must have house attendance slips signed.
Breathalyzers and urine analysis are conducted at least three times each week. Individuals who test positive for drugs and alcohol are promptly discharged. There is also a zero tolerance for violence.
Residents have an 11 pm curfew on Sundays through Thursdays and a midnight curfew on Fridays and Saturdays.
Situated in an ideal part of San Francisco, 36th Ave. Sober Living is among the most affordable facilities to be found in the high-rent Northern California city.
