2nd Chance Counseling Review

Based out of Easton, Pennsylvania, 2nd Chance Counseling is a telehealth counseling organization that provides flexible and individualized treatment services for clients struggling with addiction and related behavioral health issues. The organization provides services to clients in almost every state in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii (a full map is provided on their website). Participants receive remote therapy through a subscription payment model catered to their needs.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, clients go through an intake process and an initial consultation to help the counselors determine their needs. Because the services offered are essentially online only, medical detox or Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is not available. As mentioned, clients typically pay for a monthly membership which entitles them to unlimited texting services with certified counselors as well as up to an hour and a half of video conference sessions per month. These sessions can be set according to each client’s schedule.

Though the specifics of each care plan may vary, treatment includes a wide-range of evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT, EMDR and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Other modalities include Gestalt Therapy, Didactic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, hypnotherapy and expressive therapy as well. The program also uses the Matrix Model when treating clients, though there’s room for 12-step participation as well, whenever applicable. While more intensive dual diagnosis support is not available, those in need can get referrals to nearby counselors and practitioners in their respective states.

The staff at 2nd Chance Counseling consists primarily of a small team of web developers and medical directors, though they subcontract with many licensed therapists of varying qualifications throughout the United States.

Extras

While the organization currently offers only the monthly package for therapy, it plans on adding in a more customizable individual therapy session tier as well. Because all of the programs are individualized and flexible, the monthly membership can transition into aftercare and discharge planning seamlessly whenever necessary. The organization’s website also accepts donations which sometimes go to clients in need of therapy who can’t afford to enroll.

In Summary

Overall, 2nd Chance Counseling offers a unique approach to treating addiction through an entirely remote and flexible method. While the counseling itself is evidence-based and varied, sessions are typically conducted at a distance unless other arrangements are made between the clients and their respective assigned therapists. Although this program may not be ideal for those in need of increased supervision or psychiatric support, 2nd Chance Counseling remains a very affordable and discreet choice for therapy.
