1st Step Behavioral Health Outpatient Review
Located in Pompano Beach, Florida, 1st Step Behavioral Health was opened in December 2015 by Gus Crocco, a LCSW with more than 25 years of experience in the treatment of addiction and co-occurring disorders. In addition to detox and inpatient programs for adults, 1st Step offers sober living in conjunction with a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and basic outpatient treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Each new client at 1st Step receives an individualized treatment plan formulated according to the information collected during the intake process. This includes a comprehensive medical history and exam, urine drug screen, psychiatric evaluation and clinical interview. Clients are assigned a primary counselor that works with them throughout treatment. Those who are not in need of detox or 24-hour care are eligible to begin treatment in PHP or IOP.
The 1st Step PHP is usually about two weeks and clients have the option to live on-site or at home. The program includes five to six hours per day of CBT-based therapy per day, six days a week. IOP is typically a 30-day program and includes three hours of therapy, four days a week. Outpatient care is the final phase and offers one group a week and individual therapy on an as-needed basis.
There are specialized gender-specific groups available, as well as those that offer dual diagnosis support. Medication management is also provided for those with co-occurring disorders. Group topics include relapse prevention, healthy communication, goal setting and coping skills. PHP and IOP clients are required to attend 12-step meetings in the community.
The team at 1st Step Behavioral Health includes nurses, CADCs, CSWs, case managers, office staff and a consulting MD.
Extras
Clients in the outpatient programs have a complimentary gym membership and the option to go to the gym’s wellness center for chiropractic and massage therapy.
The 1st Step Behavioral Health sober living clients typically work or go to school and participate in PHP or IOP. They live in the same condo-style building as those in the residential program, which includes a pool and lovely outdoor common areas. Clients in the same phase of recovery are paired in gender-specific units. All the units have fully equipped kitchens and clients are expected to shop for and cook their own food. On-site laundry facilities, transportation to the gym and 12-step meetings are available at no cost.
The 1st Step family program includes loved ones in regular therapy sessions with the goal of restoring meaningful relationships.
