Milwaukee WisconsinAcadia: 10th Street Comprehensive Treatment Center Review

For over five years, 10th Street Comprehensive Treatment Center has provided Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts. 10th Street offers outpatient treatment using methadone, Suboxone or Subutex and is located in the Holler Park area of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The facility requires clients to participate in both group and individual therapy while undergoing MAT.

As a member of the Acadia Healthcare network, 10th street is just one of many behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, residential, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.

Treatment and Staff

Prospective clients are pre-screened over the phone. If their circumstances are determined suitable for treatment, they come to the clinic for a series of three assessment visits. In the first visit, they meet with a counselor and fill out paperwork. In the second, they meet with a nurse for an examination and a discussion of their health. Finally, they meet with a doctor to discuss treatment and medication options.

After clients are assessed, they and 10th Street’s treatment team decide which course of MAT best suits their needs. For their first 90 days of treatment, clients must come daily to the facility to receive their dosage. After 90 days of clean drug tests, they may apply to take home two doses every other day.

Clients attend a weekly psychoeducation class for the first month of treatment and have at least one monthly individual therapy session to monitor their progress. The class addresses the disease model of addiction, coping skills and handling triggers.

After their orientation month, clients are strongly encouraged to attend on-going group therapy. 10th Street has several processing groups running at once, and clients can attend several each week. Groups use CBT and Seeking Safety and are led by CSAC addiction counselors, many dually-certified as Master’s-level therapists. Regular individual sessions can also be scheduled with a primary counselor.

10th Street also offers gender-specific groups as well as a co-occurring disorders group. It employs a mental health consultant to review dual diagnosis treatment plans. However, if it is determined that a client’s mental health diagnosis is escalating, referrals are given to a mental health clinic or hospital for more specialized or intensive therapy and medication.

10th Street hopes that all of its clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set time-line. The treatment team also suggests that clients attend 12-step or other peer support meetings in the community while in treatment.

Extras

After clients have completed MAT, they are encouraged to schedule check-ins or regular sessions with their primary counselor for aftercare.

In Summary

10th Street Comprehensive Treatment Center provides the residents of Milwaukee with MAT accompanied by therapeutic interventions and psychoeducation classes. Its on-going therapy groups and mental health consultants make sure that clients receive the opportunity to create the thought patterns and life conditions that will give them the best chance to live a productive life in recovery.
