The Basics
Twin Town Treatment Centers was originally established in Los Alamitos, a suburb of Los Angeles, in the late 1980s by McDonnell Douglas to provide chemical dependency services to employees. It now offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treatment for substance abuse and dual-diagnosis support for adolescents and adults at six facilities throughout Los Angeles and Orange County.
Twin Town Treatment Centers believes that by treating a client in his or her natural environment, triggers that might cause a relapse will most likely show up. By discussing the issue in therapy, chances are it can be resolved. Moreover, a client can mobilize support from family, friends and doctors rather than rely on what may be the temporary support systems that are part of residential treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Twin Town Treatment Centers’ facilities are in the communities of Los Alamitos, Torrance, West Hollywood, North Hollywood, Mission Viejo and Orange. They are licensed to provide outpatient detox. If appropriate, a client is treated by an on-staff physician while attending the IOP.
Treatment is broken down into three phases. Phase one lasts for 30 days and weekly treatment includes 18 hours of group therapy, a one-on-one session with a case manager and attendance at two off-site 12-step (or SMART and/or Celebrate Recovery) meetings. Topics such as relapse prevention, addiction-as-a-disease education, abstinence, family co-dependency counseling, problem solving, stress management and family communication are discussed during therapy. Family group therapy covering codependency, family roles, communication skills and boundary setting is also provided.
Clients are encouraged to work with personal therapists. Referrals are provided to those in need of an individual counselor.
As part of the four-month aftercare program (phases two and three), clients attend half as many group sessions as they did in phase one, while mandatory attendance at recovery meetings increases. This is in keeping with the rehab’s philosophy of building a strong support system to assure long-term success in sobriety.
Out-of-pocket clients are required to pay $4,200 for 30 days. Aftercare is included in the cost.
Besides CEO David Lisonbee, who has more than 25 years of extensive experience in the behavioral health management field, the staff includes a large number of licensed alcohol and drug counselors, two supervising counselors and a physician. Staffing varies between locations.
Extras
Twin Town Treatment Centers offers an intensive day treatment program for both adult and adolescent clients. Weekly treatment includes 48 hours of group therapy.
Another program, Relapse Track, includes 10 sessions of IOP for former clients who have relapsed.
