Tri-Hab Gateway Healthcare (1)Gateway Healthcare Review

Under the umbrella of the large Rhode Island health organization, Lifespan, Gateway Healthcare operates mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities across state. Gateway’s core values are rooted in providing services on a community level and to those experiencing financial hardship. It runs number of recovery programs including the Batterers Intervention Program, Transitional Housing and Substance Abuse Residential Treatment. It helps individuals and families in need of dual diagnosis support and substance abuse treatment, introducing them to a new way of living.

Accommodations and Food

Gateway offers residential treatment at its Eastman House as well as sober living for clients who have completed a residential program.

For graduates of residential treatment, Gateway has three sober living homes including A New Dawn, Andrea’s Hope and Norfork House. Andrea’s Hope is specifically for women with children and consists of four apartments with individual rooms for each family. The environment supports long-term recovery and women can stay up to two years. Norfork House is for women reintegrating to the community from prison. A maximum stay of up to two years is also allowed here. A New Dawn is for men who need a safe living environment after they have completed their residential program.

Treatment and Staff

Gateway provides individualized treatment for each client to address dual diagnosis symptoms and the distinct issues of substance abuse.  Group therapy is the primary form of treatment. Working with CASACs, LCSWs and other mental health professionals, clients focus on topics including relapse prevention, education, women’s issues and spirituality.

The outpatient facilities offer three separate settings including regular outpatient, Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and a shorter day treatment program. Each track offers varying levels of intensity and includes individual, group and family therapy. Clients learn about the causes of their substance abuse, crisis intervention and outreach services.

The Batterers Intervention Program provides services to domestic violence offenders referred by the court system. Clients are treated for their anger management issues and given skills to rebuild their families and create a stable foundation for healthy future relationships.

Extras

For families that struggle with substance abuse in the household, Gateway Healthcare offers in-home intervention services for grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, juvenile justice, defiant behaviors and autism spectrum disorders. In addition, Gateway’s Adventures in Learning program helps troubled families to build healthy relationships through outdoor activities.

In Summary

With the help of Lifespan, Gateway is fighting the good fight to help Rhode Islanders who struggle with substance abuse and mental illness. Offering services on a sliding scale and often free of charge make recovery accessible to all.
