The Mann House is a structured sober living residence located in Bel Air, Maryland that focuses on providing extended care to chronically relapsing adult men.  While at Mann House, clients are required to attend daily 12-step meetings and group therapy and must also obtain full-time employment.

Accommodations and Amenities

The house is a two-story, six-bedroom craftsman is located in a peaceful neighborhood within walking distance of shopping centers, restaurants and churches. All bedrooms are double-occupancy and come furnished with full beds, shared closets, dressers and linens. Bathrooms have showers with tubs and countertop space for toiletries. The house also has a fully equipped kitchen as well as a spacious living room with large couches and a flat-screen TV with cable. A washer and dryer are available on-site. Clients also have access to a porch with outdoor seating.

A staff cook prepares the meals. Breakfast is generally served cold and consists of cereal, yogurt, toast and coffee, but lunch and dinner are typically served hot. Meals vary but always include a protein, vegetables and healthy fats. The protein options include chicken, steak or fish while vegetables are generally starchy and carbohydrate-rich and sautéed with spices. Accommodations are made for those with food allergies upon request and all meals are included in the cost.

Rules and Regulations

Prospective clients must have successfully completed primary or relapse treatment to live at the Mann House. The minimum commitment is six months but clients are allowed to stay for up to a year. All residents must attend daily 12-step meetings, find a sponsor and work the steps. Getting a full-time job is mandatory and all new clients are provided assistance in finding jobs. Employment must be obtained within two weeks of admission.

There are two mandatory group house meetings that are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings for an hour to an hour and a half. Residents use this time to share their progress and discuss  sobriety and relapse prevention. There are also two individual check-ins a month. All clients must do daily chores and respect the daily 11 pm curfew. During an initial 30-day probationary period, residents are drug tested every week and cell phones and vehicles are not allowed. A house manager is on-site 24 hours a day.

In Summary

The Mann House is primarily aimed at those who have suffered repeated relapses. All clients work the steps with the help of their housemates and an experienced staff. In all, the Mann House is a great option for men in early recovery coming out of primary care programs.
