Simmering Center Review
The Simmering Center is one of four rehab facilities operated by Clarity Recovery, a division of Burrell Behavioral Health, throughout the Missouri Ozarks. Its full spectrum of recovery options includes detox, residential treatment and outpatient aftercare. The program is rooted in the 12 steps, believing in a community-centered, abstinence-based approach to recovery. Through a variety of informative classes, 12-step meetings and hands-on staff, a solid foundation of sobriety can be made.
Accommodations and Food
The Simmering Center program is housed in a converted office space, which makes it feel more institutional than cozy. Basic bedrooms are shared between two clients, featuring twin-sized beds, dressers and a desk. The facility also features group therapy rooms, a meeting hall and a common area with a TV that residents can watch in the evenings.
Three meals a day are prepared by the staff cook and served cafeteria-style in the dining hall. The portions are very generous and although it’s not five-star restaurant quality, no one leaves hungry. Special dietary requests can usually be accommodated. Coffee and snacks are available at set times throughout the day. Smoking is restricted to four cigarette breaks per day during designated times.
Treatment and Staff
A three- to five-day (depending on the individual) detox program is available on site for an additional $500, but it is not medically monitored. The process happens under the care of the counselors, who check vitals periodically to ensure the safety of the clients. In the event any client exceeds the facility’s criteria for physical well-being, he or she is immediately transferred to a local hospital for medical stabilization. The goal of the detox program is to provide a safe place to sleep and rest, regular meals, frequent status checks and someone to talk to, as well as recommendations and referrals for further treatment.
The short-term residential program typically lasts for 28 days, combining therapy with the 12 steps in order to build a strong foundation for sobriety. Residents participate in individual counseling once a week, in addition to a full schedule of group therapy each day. Group topics include relapse prevention, step study, life skills, nutrition, anger management, recovery tools, trauma, employment, processing and life coaching. Residents attend on-site AA/NA meetings throughout the week. After the initial week of treatment, clients are allowed to attend off-site AA/NA meetings on Tuesdays and Sundays.
Once the residential program has been completed, clients can move on to the outpatient program. The duration and intensity of this program depends on individual needs.
Extras
Simmering Center does not offer much when it comes to recreation. There is no on-site gym or workout area, but clients can go on supervised walks.
