Signature HealthSignature Health Review

Signature Health is a community-based nonprofit that serves northeastern Ohio. It has been delivering accessible, affordable recovery services to those who are experiencing mental health or substance abuse problems for the past 20 years. The addiction services include a Suboxone maintenance program and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for those with addiction issues and co-occurring disorders. Signature Health has two locations in suburban Cleveland and another in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Treatment and Staff

Although most of their services exclusively focus on mental health, Signature Health offers an abstinence-based IOP program for addicts. It consists of a diagnostic assessment, followed by individual and group therapy and marriage or family counseling, if applicable. Treatment combines the 12 stepsCBT and DBT and meets three days a week, for three hours a day. Individual and family sessions are scheduled, as needed. Group therapy topics include guilt and shame, coping with stress and relapse prevention. The duration of treatment is determined on an individual basis, according to the initial assessment. A specialized group provides dual diagnosis support.

Signature Health also offers a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opiate addicts. The 52-week program begins with an evaluation in week one, where the client is assessed. Induction follows in week two, where clients are monitored for Suboxone tolerance and stabilized before they begin attending IOP. Weeks three to 16 are focused on continued stabilization during which, in addition to IOP, clients meet with their physician once a week or biweekly, as determined by the treatment team. Nurse assessments, urine screens and medication are provided weekly and clients are required to attend at least four AA/NA meetings a week. Weeks 17 to 52 focus on maintenance, with clients continuing IOP or attending a weekly aftercare program.

To be eligible for the Suboxone program, clients must be 18 years or older, have a diagnosis of opiate dependence and an established residence within 50 miles of the facility. They must also be willing to participate in all treatment services, not allergic to Suboxone, medically stable and stable on psychiatric medications.

Signature Health has a highly accomplished staff of psychiatrists, nurses, counselors and case managers. Some of them specialize in addiction and co-occurring disorders.

Extras

Signature Health believes staying active is a key component in recovery. Peer to peer counseling is encouraged as is attendance at weekly, peer-led groups that involve activities such as Bingo, crocheting, in-house movie screenings, and arts and crafts. Signature Health clients also help with community garage sales, back-to-school programs, food banks and clothing drives.

In Summary

Signature Health’s substance abuse programs offer Ohio residents several affordable outpatient options. In particular, the Suboxone program is a great value for those who are trying to break the devastating cycle of opiate addiction, but do not need the kind of intensive treatment that a residential facility would provide.
