ShareHouseShareHouse Review

Nestled in rural Fargo, North Dakota is ShareHouse, a vast network of substance abuse treatment facilities. For 40 years, ShareHouse has been providing cutting edge treatment for chemical dependency in the Midwest. ShareHouse offers 115 beds at four residential treatment locations, 26 of which are reserved for women with children. In addition, ShareHouse offers DUI education seminars, classes for those with Minor in Possession (MIP) charges and mental health services for people with co-occurring disorders. Using the 12 steps and specialized group therapy, ShareHouse provides individualized treatment plans with varying degrees of intensity.

Accommodations and Food

Four population-specific houses make up ShareHouse’s residential programming: ShareHouse for adult men and women, Robinson Recovery Center for uninsured men and women, Sister’s Path for homeless mothers with children and Stepping Stones for other women with children. Altogether, the four facilities offer 115 beds with round-the-clock care for clients. Up to four residents live together in fully furnished apartments in each house grouping while women with children have their own apartments.

ShareHouse always offers three balanced meals per day in the community dining hall at each location. If clients prefer to cook their own meals, they are welcome to do so in their apartment kitchens. Residents can control their diets, sugar and caffeine intake by preparing their own meals, but ShareHouse does not allow energy drinks on the premises.

Treatment and Staff

Before admission, potential clients undergo a chemical dependency evaluation. During the evaluation, residents are assessed for their recommended level of care. Clients at ShareHouse are afforded customized and high-quality care with a minimum 90-day stay.

While ShareHouse does offer individual therapy, a majority of their mental health care is group oriented. Treatment Mall is ShareHouse’s name for its nearly 100 hours of group offerings. Clients can attend an array of groups including Quitting Smoking, Beyond Trauma, Anger Management and Cognitive Restructuring. There is a trauma informed care group, a number of gender specific offerings and a wide variety of options for those with co-occurring disorders.

A typical day at ShareHouse starts with breakfast served in the dining room followed by a residential community meeting. Residents then attend one of the specialized group meetings through the Treatment Mall. Before lunch, clients meet one-on-one with their counselors. Family Programming services are next on the agenda, followed by a meeting with a case manager. Residents get a break for exercise before dinner, followed by transport to a 12-step meeting. Finally, clients have free time to participate in recreational activities that vary depending on a client’s progress.

ShareHouse also offers varying degrees of outpatient treatment, including a low-intensity track that meets twice weekly and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that meets three times a week. Clients have the benefit of staying with the same group with a single counselor for each track, with the aim of allowing deeper connections and trust to be established with their peers.

Clients in all programs learn a new set of coping skills, attend 12-step or SMART Recovery meetings, identify their triggers and co-create their treatment plans with counselors. On a case-by-case basis, residents can transition into ShareHouse’s relapse prevention group for continuing care.

Boasting a dynamic staff of 50, ShareHouse employees include 19 counselors with LADC, LSW and LAC credentials, a clinical psychologist, three licensed nurses and a psychiatric nurse.

Extras

Qi Gong is offered as an alternative therapy, and two of the counselors specialize in EMDR and reflexology.

In addition to outpatient and residential treatment, ShareHouse offers DUI education seminars, classes for those with MIPs and additional mental health services. There are also continuing education workshops for treatment professionals.

In Summary

Recovery at ShareHouse is built on creating highly customized treatment plans for their residents. While all residential clients enjoy the same living amenities, the cost of treatment is based on the services they’re utilizing—how intense their treatment schedule is and how much professional intervention is involved. Many financial and insurance options are available to clients who need assistance paying for their treatment, making ShareHouse a solid choice.
