The Basics
Second Chance Recovery Residences is a 12-step based sober living environment in Atlanta, Georgia. SCRR offers two programs—one for men and women aged 24 and above, and the other for men and women age 55 and above. Although the treatment at SCRR is structured around counseling and 12-step methodology, it allows for clients to take individual responsibility for their recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
SCRR clients live in a complex of furnished apartments just a short bus ride from downtown Atlanta. Each shared apartment has one bedroom and bathroom and accommodates two individuals of the same gender. Units have a living room with large couches, a fireplace, cable TV, high speed Wi-Fi, a fully-equipped kitchen and a washer and dryer. Clients have free membership at the nearby health clubs. Staff is available on-site 24/7.
Rules and Regulations
SCRR is not a strict sober living but does enforce a set of rules. Commitment to a 12-step program is required, as is having a sponsor to help guide the client through the steps and Big Book. Attendance at two community weekly meetings, completion of house chores and respectful behavior toward fellow clients is expected at all times. Clients are expected to participate in both individual and group counseling with a CSAC.
The older adult program offers specialized groups focused on the unique needs of those who are recovering later in life. Topics such as grief and loss, loss of career, loneliness and declining health are discussed. SCRR is near the local senior center where clients have access to physical fitness programs, nutritionists, life enrichment classes and healthy breakfasts and lunches.
Although attending school or having a job is not explicitly required, clients are expected to be out of bed and dressed by 9 am to start their day. SCRR considers personal responsibility and willingness to change crucial to attaining and maintaining sobriety.
Extras
SCRR offers relapse prevention, sober living and life skills classes, all of which are taught by a credentialed counselor.
