Sea Mar Community Health Centers Review
Sea Mar Community Health Centers started out in 1978 as a single health clinic in Seattle. Today it has over 60 facilities across Washington state, providing services from basic medical care to dental care to addiction and recovery care. Its behavioral health services include 13 outpatient sites and four inpatient facilities as well as recovery houses.
Accommodations and Food
The accommodations for the inpatient facilities differ only in the amount of beds they provide—with the Tacoma center offering 36, and the Seattle center 24. The residences are home-like, with each room shared between two individuals. No electronic devices are allowed, however there is a communal media center. Nutritious meals are provided three times a day and food restrictions and specific dietary requirements are accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Sea Mar offers both outpatient and inpatient treatment programs for substance abuse and chemical dependency. The inpatient programs, offered at either Seattle or Tacoma, follow the same treatment plan for their respective clients. The programs are 30 days and follow the 12-step model of treatment. The program includes daily group therapy, individual therapy, relapse prevention education, health education, nutrition classes, HIV/AIDS education and medication management. The supportive therapeutic community has staff on hand 24/7 and offers mental health referrals for those with co-occurring disorders.
The outpatient programs at the 13 different Sea Mar locations all employ the same course of treatment for their clients. Initial evaluations and assessments are used to develop individualized treatment plans, and a single counselor manages the case. Individual and group therapy is offered weekly, as are 12-step meetings and family counseling. Educational courses—on such topics as relapse prevention education, basic substance abuse education and aftercare information—are also provided.
The staff at Sea Mar consists of medical doctors, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, MFTs and LADCs.
Extras
All of the inpatient Sea Mar facilities have additional recreational activities and classes available to their clients. Nutrition and basic health courses are offered, as are hiking and nature outings and occasionally yoga classes.
