Scottsdale Recovery CenterThe Basics

The Scottsdale Recovery Center’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) was founded in 2008 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Catering primarily to adults, Scottsdale Recovery Center offers a wide variety of treatment and sobriety support programs in addition to its IOP including sober living homes for women (The Miller House) and men (The Turquoise House).

Treatment and Staff

The intake process at Scottsdale Recovery Center begins with a phone assessment with an intake coordinator who helps determine if the client is a good fit. The next step is an in-person assessment with a counselor who helps determine the client’s treatment plan based on his or her current needs and substance abuse history. If the counselor believes the client is in need of a higher level of service, he or she is referred to both internal and external detox and residential treatment programs.

Scottsdale’s IOP’s length is based on the needs of the client with the average amount of time being four to eight weeks. The therapy in the IOP consists of both group and individual counseling. The group meetings usually have eight to 12 clients and are led by one counselor. The counselors cover a variety of topics and utilize an array of treatment techniques in the group meetings including CBT, relapse prevention, substance abuse education, triggers and how to deal with trauma. The groups are co-ed and meet Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am to 12pm. Clients attend one individual meeting per week with a counselor and these meetings last up to 75 minutes. The IOP also requires two urinalysis tests per week to track client’s sobriety.

The IOP is 12-step based, and counselors encourage clients to regularly attend outside AA and NA meetings and find a sponsor while in the program.

Scottsdale Recovery Center is dual diagnosis equipped and clients with co-occurring disorders are in the care of an on-staff doctor.

The staff is comprised of both licensed substance abuse counselors (LISACs specifically) and Master’s-level social workers.

Extras

Scottsdale Recovery Center offers counseling sessions with the family members of the clients upon consent of the client. The family members are required to have an initial individual meeting with one of Scottsdale’s counselors when beginning this process. Following this meeting, the counselor meets with both the family members and client to discuss issues such as codependency and substance abuse education.

When clients have finished the program, Scottsdale refers them to their alumni program. The alumni program meets twice a week and participates in a recreational activity once a month. Clients are also encouraged to continue attending individual meetings once a week, and then twice a month and then once a month, as they adjust to life outside of treatment.

In Summary

The Scottsdale Recovery Center’s IOP offers a comprehensive and individualized outpatient treatment program to adult clients in the Scottsdale area. The small size of the group meetings allows clients a large amount of individualized attention. Also, the on-staff doctor provides a high level of care for clients with co-occurring disorders. The active alumni group and gradual step-down in individual counseling allows clients a healthy and safe support network to enter into after they finish with their treatment.
