Prairie ViewPrairie View Review

Prairie View was founded in 1954 and is the longest-serving non-profit, faith-based community drug rehabilitation and mental health center in Kansas. Prairie View offers a wide range of services for children and adults, including inpatient, outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) options. Appropriately named, Prairie View is located on a peaceful prairie where clients can focus on their treatment in a serene setting.

Accommodations and Food

Situated on an 80-acre campus, Prairie View allows clients to enjoy views of unobstructed sky. The  spacious hospital setting includes 30 beds for adults and older adults. In addition, there are 20 beds for the intensive adolescent residential program. Clients are responsible for keeping their rooms tidy (laundry and housekeeping items are readily available for their use). There’s a TV in the main room as well as a game room and gym.

The food is served cafeteria-style for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Prairie View accommodates dietary needs but asks that clients communicate these requests in advance of admittance.

Treatment and Staff

All clients have the option to be screened by phone or in-person prior to admission. Based on this screening, an individualized treatment plan is created. Family involvement for treatment is encouraged, so clients can make sure loved ones are in the loop.

While treatment is primarily based on the 12 steps, Prairie View also offers dual diagnosis treatment. The length of stay depends on the individual’s needs. Prairie View does not provide detox but does provide referrals to an affiliated hospital to those who need it.

Prairie View’s Partial Hospital short-term care is a day program designed to give clients more time to understand their diagnoses and learn coping skills. The goal is to help people get back into daily life feeling confident, prepared and possessing all the tools needed for success. This is a recommended option for clients who already participate in outpatient treatment but may currently be dealing with stressful situations that require a little extra attention.

Outpatient treatment options include flexible group and individual therapy choices, so clients can fit treatment into busy schedules.

Days are structured with therapies that address a variety of issues including how to manage medications and practice skills that build confidence in handling stressors. Art therapy, expressive therapy, non-denominational spirituality courses and relapse prevention courses are all available to include in clients’ treatment plans.

The staff includes board-certified physicians and technicians and the facility is staffed round-the-clock.

Extras

Prairie View is loaded with extras—everything from a gym, yoga and art lessons to their nationally accredited adventure course to the Labyrinth Walk, an ancient tool which provides reflection and relaxing meditation. A chapel is also on-site.

In Summary

Prairie View is a longstanding treatment facility with an impressive assortment of available therapies. For those looking for various levels of care—inpatient, partial hospitalization or outpatient options—this mid-range facility successfully addresses the changing needs of individuals in recovery.
