Pioneer Recovery Center (PRC) Review

Initially founded in 2009 as a 10-bed facility, Pioneer Recovery Center (PRC) has since grown to twice its original size, offering women a safe place to recover from chemical dependency. This residential facility is located in the beautiful and scenic Northwoods of Cloquet, Minnesota, where recovery focuses not only on substance abuse but trauma as well.

Accommodations and Food

The accommodations at PRC are set in a comfortable home-like building with 11 bedrooms in total. Each room has two twin beds with a small cabinet and bedside table for each client. There are three communal bathrooms to be shared between the 20 or so clients. There is also a large office room, a conference area and a communal lounge.

Clients are responsible for preparing their own meals in the commercial kitchen and eating together in the dining area. After dinner and between therapy appointments, they can also smoke in designated areas.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at this 30-day program starts with a diagnostic assessment that includes a mental health screening, which is then used to create an individualized treatment plan for the client. In addition to individual therapy, there are also various group therapy sessions offered. Groups include A Women’s Way through the 12 steps, Living in Balance and Connections. The Women’s Way group focuses on the book of the same name—women learn how to interpret the 12 steps from a female perspective. Living in Balance helps clients to address lifestyle, relationships and emotional issues and Connections engages clients on a cognitive, behavioral and interpersonal level. In addition to the individual and group therapy, PRC also offers trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis support to those who need it. There is also a special form of therapy at PRC called Seeking Safety, which is meant to help clients attain safety and peace of mind from trauma, PTSD and substance abuse in a present-focused therapy method.

PRC lets its clients make phone calls and use the office computers during designated hours—daily from 6 to 8 pm. Visiting hours are on Sundays from 2 to 4 pm and on Thursdays from 7 to 8 pm.

The all-female staff at Pioneer Recovery Center consists of social workers, a nurse and several licensed therapists and substance abuse counselors.

Extras

PRC offers art therapy in addition to their various other treatment methods. Through the use of various media, such as paint, clay, shaving cream, crayons, collage or photography, clients are able to form their own path to recovery via visual representation.

In Summary

For women seeking a safe and nurturing home-like facility to recover from chemical dependency and possibly trauma, Pioneer Recovery Center may just be the right choice. With an all-female staff of caring professionals and a sophisticated treatment plan, PRC is a smart choice for the first step towards recovery.
