Palm PartnersPalm Partners Review

In the Southern region of Florida’s east coast, between Boynton Beach and Boca Raton, lies Delray Beach, home to substance abuse treatment center Palm Partners. And if the name sounds familiar, it might be because of the publicity it received on A&E’s Intervention.

Accommodations and Food

When clients enter residential treatment, they are moved from the supervised detox facility to two-bedroom apartments they share with three other people. Clients are expected to keep their apartments clean, buy their own groceries (each client has a $75 weekly food allowance) and cook their meals. Healthy meals are considered part of the detox process so food is prepared and provided during that time. And unlike some other treatment facilities, Palm Partners makes sweets and snacks available as well.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment typically begins with detox, which is available on-site and lasts between four and 10 days. During this time, staff members who are specially trained in chemical detoxification medically supervise clients around the clock. Medication, massage, acupuncture and the aforementioned meals are included.

The program at Palm Partners is 12-step based, with a large focus on esteem building and developing self-care. Creativity and inspiration are valued at Palm Partners and daily activities can sometimes reflect that ideology—one former client claims that each day began with a communal dance and motivational speech. Individuality and personal freedom are encouraged and clients are even given the choice as to whether they would like to go the traditional 12-step route to or take a more non-traditional path involving hypnotherapy, acupuncture and relapse prevention education (though these alternative methods, as well as traditional group and individual psychotherapy, are available to everyone). The staff is medically-oriented and comprised of doctors, nurses and PhD-level therapists.

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is also available for clients who have outside jobs and stable residences in the area and whose journey in early sobriety won’t affect their employment. Less intensive outpatient with housing is available for people who have jobs but would like the safety and stability of a recovery-focused residence. This option is recommended for continued care.

Many clients appreciate the less-structured schedule and laid back rules—such as two hours of cell phone use at the end of the day and all the television watching their hearts desire. However, iPads and laptops aren’t allowed and cell phones are collected before bed to ensure the allotted time restrictions are adhered to.

Extras

The curriculum at Palm Partners isn’t big on structured activities but that doesn’t mean clients are lacking things to do. When residents aren’t treating the emotional and spiritual aspect of recovery, they are invited to explore yoga, meditation, therapeutic massages, chiropractic adjustments or work out at the on-site gym, which offers fitness classes and is equipped with a pool and sauna.

In Summary

Palm Partners offers a location with great weather and a program that doesn’t breathe down residents’ necks, which can make it the perfect place for clients to relax a little and approach recovery at their own pace, in their own way.
