New Dimensions Day Hospital LLC Review
With two locations in Clear Lake and Woodlands, Texas, both located just outside the greater Houston metropolitan area, New Dimensions Day Hospital LLC offers partial day and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) recovery services to adults and adolescents ages 13 and older. New Dimensions specializes in chemical dependence and behavioral health recovery but also offers dual diagnosis programs, Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and aftercare programs.
Accommodations and Food
Both the Woodlands and Clear Lake facilities are psychiatric hospitals which host the daily outpatient routine. The Clear Lake location is located close to NASA and serves Harris, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend, and Chambers counties. The Woodlands area, a rapidly growing master planned community, serves Harris, Montgomery, Liberty, and Fort Bend counties. Both facilities use office spaces for group therapy sessions, which take place in large conference rooms. Predictably and in keeping with the procedure of most outpatient programs, there are no meals served during either program.
Treatment and Staff
Under the overall banner of the New Dimensions outpatient program, clients have several options to map out their recovery. These include a behavioral health track, a chemical dependency track and a dual diagnosis program. There is also a program designed specifically for adolescents, which follows much of the same procedure as these adult tracks. All of these programs are available in both partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient varieties, the difference of which essentially amounts to how much time spent is spent at the facility.
The chemical dependency track features late afternoon and evening sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45-8:30pm. These sessions are founded in the 12-step philosophy and clients will frequently go to offsite meetings during their program, which typically lasts 6-8 weeks. The behavioral track features daytime sessions which cover issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder and anger management. Clients participating in the dual diagnosis program will mix day and evening sessions throughout the week. Much of the aftercare program of New Dimensions is tasked with finding clients a sponsor and encouraging ongoing meetings. There is also a free weekly aftercare session on Tuesday nights from 6-7pm.
Perhaps surprisingly, given their hospital setting but practical when one considers that there are no overnight facilities for clients, New Dimensions does not offer a medical detox on-site. Clients are afforded an initial evaluation from one of the medical doctors on staff, who will determine if a detox is necessary and will refer the client to a proper venue for the procedure. Clients will also have an initial meeting with a staff psychiatrist, though New Dimensions also encourages clients to continue to work with their own personal psychiatrists, counselors or therapists during the course of their stay, believing in continuity of care.
As with most outpatient programs, there are no recreation activities for clients at New Dimensions Day Hospital LLC. The only offsite activity that clients will participate in together is attendance at local 12-step meetings.
Extras
For those requiring medication, New Dimensions’ staff psychiatrist will prescribe and monitor a client’s medications while in the program. And as previously mentioned, if a client has a psychiatric team already in place, New Dimensions will work in concert with them to ensure stable care.
In Summary
For those in the Houston area or neighboring communities, New Dimensions LLC offers a stable, steady and comprehensive outpatient program at a reasonable cost. Since the program is outpatient only and given that many of its features are predicated on having a local base of support from family or psychological care, those needing to travel too far to attend New Dimensions may want to consider another facility in their own community. There are few standout details in New Dimension’s program, though this does not take away from the well organized and disciplined care they provide.
