Maynords Recovery Center Review
As a family-owned operation that has been providing care for 36 years, Maynords Recovery Center offers an organic recovery environment on a comfortable, 22-acre ranch setting near Yosemite National Forest in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
Named for founders Joan and the late Bob Maynord (whose own recovery inspired them to open the facility), Maynords has maintained a family approach to business, with the couple’s son James now serving as the program director and daughters Shana and Nancy working on-site as well.
Accommodations and Food
Rooms are shared between four and five clients, though each contain a bathroom with a shower (residents also each get their own dresser and closet space). Maynords houses a maximum of 30 clients, but makes efforts to avoid overcrowding whenever possible.
Residents are not permitted to bring any bedding, food or drink, any more baggage than two suitcases, any electrical musical equipment, vitamins or any dietary supplements unless prescribed by a doctor.
Meals are all home-cooked from scratch, including bread and pastries. There’s also a different meal for every day of the month, with attention paid to keeping everything balanced and nutritious. Only non-caffeinated coffee is served on site.
Treatment and Staff
The program offers a traditional combination of group and individual therapy and requires residents to attend six 12-step meetings a week, both on the premises and in the community. Average stays last about 28 days and include courses in stress management and relapse prevention; continuing care is also available.
Maynords has a team of 30 employees, among them certified addiction counselors and on-site medical staff, with 24/7 oversight; on-site detox is also available.
Extras
Clients can take hikes on one of several walking trails, play volleyball on a sand court, practice their jump shot, throw horseshoes or play a game of ping pong; there is also an exercise room with free weights and a few exercise machines. Maynords doesn’t provide outside excursions except in the form of weekly off-site AA meetings.
Maynords offers a comprehensive family program. It’s a four-week intensive program which runs on Sundays from 9 am to 5 pm where clients and their relatives learn how to keep consistent behaviors and boundaries with one another.
Finally, a one-time free massage is offered to residents upon their arrival, and additional massage therapy is available as well for a reasonable extra fee.
In Summary
While many recovery facilities attempt to create a home atmosphere, Maynords largely succeeds in doing so. It’s a family-owned and operated program, and this influence reveals itself at every turn, whether it’s in the lodgings or in treatment plans. Clients can expect home-cooked meals, an insulated environment and plenty of family involvement. For those who benefit from a wholesome family atmosphere, Maynords Recovery Center may provide the perfect place for a lasting recovery.
