L.E. Phillips Libertas Treatment CenterL.E. Phillips Libertas Treatment Center Review

Established in 1977, L.E. Phillips Libertas Treatment Center is a service of St. Joseph’s Hospital of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, which has been treating alcoholism since the 1940s. Using the 12 steps as the guiding principles for treatment, this facility offers detox, a 28-day inpatient program and outpatient services for adults and adolescents in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls and surrounding communities in central Wisconsin.

Accommodations and Food

The intimate, 12-client residential program provides a calming, structured environment for recovery. Set up in a converted office space adjacent to the hospital in Chippewa Falls, it features shared bedrooms, a small dining room, therapy rooms, lecture hall, a recreation room and a common area with a TV. Smoking is not permitted. Each week, group recreational activities are chosen. Residents can work out in a small weight room.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared off site by the hospital dietician and served in the dining room. Special dietary requests can usually be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

At L.E. Phillips Libertas Treatment Center, a medically monitored detox that lasts for three to seven days is available for those needing physical stabilization. Medical attention is provided round the clock and, once detox is completed, the client moves into the residential facility or returns home and participates in the outpatient program.

The 28-day residential program includes daily group therapy, weekly individual therapy, educational sessions, family group and exposure to the 12-step community. Group topics include relapse prevention, introduction to the 12 steps, Big Book study, trauma and life skills. Evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are used in both a group and individual setting.

In addition to receiving talk therapy, clients are immersed in the world of the 12 steps. During group therapy, the steps are discussed in great detail. In the evenings, residents have a chance to experience AA/NA meetings firsthand. While they are not required to get a sponsor, it is strongly encouraged.

When a resident is finished with inpatient treatment, the day program is a great option. Treatment is offered four days a week, for six and a half hours at a time. This program includes intensive group therapy, individual therapy once a week, 12-step work and a family program. Group topics are similar to those discussed in residential, with a greater focus on relapse prevention. This program costs $330 per day.

The 90-day outpatient program meets three times a week, for three-hour sessions, the first month, twice a week for the second month and then just once a week for the third and final month. This type of schedule allows clients to ease slowly out of treatment. Outpatient treatment involves group therapy, individual therapy, the 12 steps and a family program. It costs $302 per day.

The staff includes licensed and certified counselors, nurses, psychiatrists and therapists. Detox is supervised by hospital staff, including physicians.

Extras

Family night is offered on Wednesdays, with three hours of group therapy and education for family members. A tobacco cessation program is also available for those who wish to quit smoking.

In Summary

L.E Phillips Libertas Treatment Center offers a full spectrum of affordable treatment that relies heavily on the 12 steps to help clients break the cycle of addiction. Through meetings, step work and therapy, participants can learn the skills they need to live a sober life. This program may not be a good fit for those who struggle with the 12 step principles, like the concept of a Higher Power or abstinence.
