Insight House Chemical Dependency Review
Established in 1971 by former probation officer Paul Vitagliano, Insight House Chemical Dependency is a not-for-profit residential and outpatient drug and alcohol program in Utica, New York that treats adult and adolescent addicts as well as those with co-occurring disorders. It is state-funded, charges on a sliding scale and accepts most insurance, but no one is turned away if they cannot afford treatment. Accommodations and Food

All programs offer psychiatric assessment and medication treatment when necessary, as well as group and individual therapy. Groups focus on stress reduction, dual diagnosis and relapse prevention. There are also structured health and wellness education groups.
In the day rehabilitation program, clients attend group sessions four hours a day, five days a week; as treatment continues, the regularity of sessions decreases.
The professional staff at Insight House is comprised of social workers and CADCs. A psychiatrist is available for those needing medication management and assistance. There are roughly 50 staff members including a small night crew to fill out round-the-clock supervision.

In addition to regular groups, Insight House offers a women-specific track with both individual and group counseling that focuses on self-esteem, relationship and health issues (including smoking cessation and HIV care), trauma and parenting classes. Co-ed courses in high school equivalency exam preparation are also offered, in addition to family groups.
Insight House engages the community with many prevention campaigns and events, including school programs, to educate teens and adolescents about the risk of alcohol abuse. Insight also offers classes to parents to help them identify signs of alcohol or drug addiction in their children and how they might address those issues constructively.
