Hope of East Tennessee Inc. Review
Hope of East Tennessee is a 12-step based rehab in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a small city just 30 miles outside of Knoxville. First opened in 1976, Hope of Tennessee has treated over 4,000 people.
Accommodations and Food
The facility is located in a residential neighborhood where treatment and housing take place separately. The houses are one-story homes with decks atop green lawns and clients sleep two or three to a room. A dietician creates the menu and clients with cooking experience are assigned the task of making two meals a day following the state guidelines for nutrition.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at Hope of East Tennessee is mainly lectures on addiction and relapse prevention, 12-step meetings and group and individual therapy. A staff of 10 oversees the program and clients may attend the program for as long as 120 days but can stay for just 28. There is no MD on staff so there’s no detox but dual diagnosis support is available in collaboration the Ridgeview Mental Health Center. Clients receive one or two individual therapy sessions a week. Since there’s only one on-site AA meeting a week, residents walk together to the off-site meetings a few blocks away. They are not only required to attend these meetings but also guided to get sponsors while in treatment.
A typical day at Hope of East Tennessee means waking up at 6:30 am for breakfast at 7, followed by chores, group or individual therapy and a lecture on addiction. After lunch at noon, there’s more of the same as well as additional free time and optional exercise. Dinner is at 6 pm, after which clients attend an AA meeting at 7 pm and have free time until lights out at 11. Clients can watch TV after 4 pm every day and cell phones are allowed but computers are not.
There is no family program but staff will meet with loved ones if requested. Visitors are welcome every day from 9 am to 9 pm so long as this doesn’t interfere with the program.
Extras
The extras are slim at Hope of East Tennessee and pretty much limited to occasionally going to the mall with the staff on weekends. There is no gym but there are some free weights.
In Summary
For the cost, Hope of East Tennessee is a good option. Housing and an introduction to AA at this price is well worth considering.
