Chapel Hill North CarolinaFreedom House Recovery Center Review

Freedom House Recovery Center was founded in 1947 as a non-profit halfway house and has since grown to become one of the largest behavioral healthcare and substance abuse treatment programs in North Carolina. Located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, FHRC offers intervention, detox, both outpatient services and transitional services for adults as well as outpatient mental health and addiction treatment for adolescents.

Treatment and Staff

FHRC’s outpatient program has both an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a basic track. The initial diagnostic assessment and evaluation determines which track the client should be enroll in and an individualized plan is developed from there. Both programs include individual and group therapy, family therapy, peer support groups, educational lectures and medication management as well as treatment for co-occurring disorders if needed. Individual and family therapy sessions are scheduled independently, while group sessions are attended as frequently as the client’s individualized plan sees fit. The type and frequency of treatment modalities are also dependent upon each individualized plan. All therapies utilize CBT and DBT methodologies. The 12-steps are not integrated into the program, however clients are encouraged to attend meetings outside of the program.

The adolescent outpatient substance abuse IOP includes individual, peer group and family therapy and medication management. Additionally, parents can take advantage of parenting training sessions and workshops as well as intensive in-home therapy.

The staff at FHRC consists of a MSWs and LCSWs, a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) and a Certified Clinical Supervisor.

Extras

In addition to FHRC’s comprehensive outpatient and intervention services, clients have the option of enrolling in a transitional home or a halfway house. The transitional living program is 30 days or less, while the halfway house is a longer-term option, lasting up to six months. Both housing services include participation in outpatient treatment, residential supervision and structured daily living guidelines and rules.

FHRC also offers medical care services as well as crisis and intervention services.
