Floyd Behavioral Health CenterFloyd Behavioral Health Center Review

Floyd Behavioral Health Center is a 12-step based treatment facility an hour from Atlanta in Rome, Georgia. It offers detox, inpatient and outpatient treatment. Admission to the program is determined by an in-person or telephone assessment.

Accommodations and Food

Because this is a hospital, the detox and inpatient program have an institutional feeling, although the facility is new and attractive. Men and women are housed in separate halls, with each residential program holding 12 clients at a time. There are 10 beds in the detox center, so clients are assigned roommates of the same gender. Bedrooms contain twin-sized beds, armoires and a small cabinet. The men and women share a common room/dining area with a TV.

Three hot meals are served daily, cafeteria-style. The food is prepared by the hospital culinary staff according to their nutritional standards. Accommodations can be made for those with dietary restrictions.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at Floyd Behavioral Health Center begins with an assessment that can be done on the phone or in person—the staff is available 24/7 for assessments. Following the assessment, the mental health staff consults with the staff psychiatrist, who recommends what type of treatment the client may need. Options include inpatient, Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and individual mental health counseling for those with co-occurring disorders.

Detox is provided to clients at the beginning of their stay, if medically indicated. During the three- to five-day process, clients receive 24-hour care and are constantly monitored by doctors and nurses. After detox is complete, they usually transition to the inpatient program.

The 28-day inpatient program combines a highly structured environment with 12-step based group and individual therapy and medication management. Family programming is included along with  stress management, coping skills development, relapse prevention, and continuing recovery care and planning.

IOP at Floyd Behavioral Health Center is no picnic. Clients attend three-hour morning or evening group sessions Monday through Thursday and a two-hour treatment session Friday evening. They are also required to attend at least three 12-step meetings per week as well as one assessment with the staff psychiatrist. This outpatient program is designed for those who need serious treatment, but do not need or want inpatient treatment or do not meet insurance or Medicare requirements for inpatient.

The hospital is staffed around the clock by a team of experienced professionals, including psychotherapists trained in dual-diagnosis. A physician who specializes in addiction medicine leads the interdisciplinary team of professionals that includes nurses, social workers and counselors.

Floyd Behavioral Health Services is a comprehensive, hospital treatment program that is ideal for those seeking mental health and medical care combined with addiction recovery.
