Endorphin Power Company Review
Endorphin Power Company helps individuals overcome their alcoholism and addiction with the “Four Pillars” of education, exercise, community and service. Founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2003 as a nonprofit agency, Endorphin Power combined with the Waterman Power House (WPH) transitional living program in 2008 to offer a safe space for people experiencing homelessness as a result of substance abuse. WPH is a vast property that is drug-, alcohol- and smoke-free to promote total health and rehabilitation for severe cases of addiction. Serving Albuquerque residents, Endorphin Power helps turn around lives and reintegrate individuals back into the community.
Accommodations and Amenities
Endorphin Power has 18 apartment units available as single units with their own bedrooms and bathrooms. Residents have the luxury of living in their own space for a few hundred dollars per month and are encouraged to stay up to an entire year. Included in the rent are utilities and Internet. The facility has its own community kitchen where residents and staff prepare their own food. While some food must be bought by the clients, many items are donated by the community.
The calendar includes a wealth of activities and community meetings that run from optional to required. 12-step meetings including AA/NA, Cocaine Anonymous and Adult Children of Alcoholics, are available within easy reach of the facility.
Since exercise releases endorphins, which produce a natural “high,” many exercise classes are available to the residents including yoga and spin. Indoor cycling class and a rock climbing wall are offered as exciting and different ways to explore the physical body’s boundaries.
Rules and Regulations
To be considered as a resident of Endorphin Power, an individual must fill out an online application. All criminal and treatment records are taken into account and a meeting is scheduled where a prospective resident undergoes one last screening.
By the end of their stay, residents are expected to have a place to live and a support network of friends who are also clean and sober. All clients take education classes with teachers in subjects including English, math and science. The founders believe that education helps clients to become more employable and a more productive member of society.
Community and service are a requirement for residents. Building a foundation for change, residents develop job, social and interpersonal skills that assist them in reintegrating into the community. Since all residents were homeless due to their drug addiction and alcoholism, most service work addresses the issue of homelessness as a social issue and a personal problem.

Endorphin Power may be best described as a program that teaches how to lead a sober lifestyle. Clients can become more educated, physically fit and more productive members of the Albuquerque community. The staff at Endorphin Power are able to give their residents a new lease on life.
