Today, Inc.Today, Inc. Review

Since 1971, Today, Inc. has provided a comprehensive program for individuals and families of Bucks County, Pennsylvania affected by co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. Their facility offers outpatient and residential care for men and women, though they also have a program that caters to adolescents at their nearby facility in Langhorne. In October of 2014, Today, Inc. partnered with Pyramid Healthcare, a Pennsylvania-based behavioral health company.

Accommodations and Food

Male residents at Today, Inc. stay in a refurbished farm house, which can host up to 30 at a time. Clients share rooms with one to two other roommates, and each is assigned a twin bed and a five-drawer dresser to themselves—there are no closets. There’s also one bathroom in the facility, shared by all.

The men’s house is connected to Today’s detox unit, as well as to a separate kitchen facility. The women’s location is about a minute’s drive across the grounds and is a little smaller, typically housing about 12 clients at a time. Still, the living arrangements and accommodations are similar to the male home, though there are two shared bathrooms instead of one. Other than traveling to the kitchen for meals (which four staff cooks serve three times daily), both genders spend the majority of their time at their respective houses.

Treatment and Staff

On-site medically-assisted detox is available for men and women over 18, and uses Subutex for opiates and Librium for alcohol. This stage of treatment also features 24-hour nursing care for the duration of the three to seven days. Clients share detox rooms with one to two other residents.

There are two different treatment tracks at Today, Inc., one is short-term program lasting 14 to 28 days, the other long-term, lasting 30 to 90. Upon arrival, residents are assigned a primary therapist who facilitates individual and group therapy, both of which occur throughout the week.

Group sessions are either small and intimate with no more than 10 residents or large and speaker-based with up to 30. Clients also get addiction lectures with trained counselors three times a week, group therapy four times a week, group family therapy once a week (when applicable) and weekly one-on-one sessions. Residents also attend several off-site 12-step meetings throughout the week. While men and women do share meals together, that is the extent of their involvement with one another—all treatment at Today, Inc. is gender-specific.

Dual diagnosis care is also available at Today, Inc., with a medical doctor and psychiatrist available on an as-needed basis (though both make weekly visits). The nursing staff are always available from 9 am to 8 pm in the detox wing; for emergency situations, there is a local hospital nearby.

Extras

During their free time, clients are encouraged to take advantage of Today, Inc.’s vast property, which features a basketball court, volleyball court, horseshoe pit and weight set. There are also daily morning meditations, to set a routine and help residents get in the right state of mind for treatment.

In Summary

Today, Inc. has served southeast Pennsylvania for 44 years, and in that time it’s grown into an expansive facility with an array of programs, recreational amenities and a competitive price-point.
