Diversity Counseling and Education Center Review
Diversity Counseling and Education Center (DCEC) is an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility located in the beautiful Mile High City of Denver, Colorado. This facility aims to target the growing immigrant population in the State of Colorado, taking into consideration the fact that many individuals who need treatment are turned down due to lack of funds. At DCEC, no one is turned down and a sliding fee scale is offered for those experiencing financial hardship. They provide evidence-based treatment for adults with a focus on individualized plans, rather than predetermined programs.
Treatment and Staff
Beginning with an intake session, the type and length of care will be determined and each person receives a treatment plan created especially for them. The programs can include a combination of individual and group therapy, as well as state-approved DWI education and therapy for those who are court-ordered to treatment. CBT and DBT are used in both the group and individual setting. There is a focus on relapse prevention and 12-step engagement. DCEC strongly recommends clients regularly attend AA or NA meetings in the community.
Those with high-level treatment needs will attend group sessions three to four times per week, while those who require a lower level of treatment attend once weekly. Individual sessions are scheduled as needed, at least once a month. The duration of treatment varies from person to person. Some clients require twelve sessions, others can attend up to 24 sessions. Once the outpatient program is completed, approximately six follow-up sessions are recommended.
The DCEC staff is made up of CADCs and LPCs.
Extras
In addition to substance abuse treatment, DCEC offers anger management counseling as well as help with grief and bereavement, family counseling for parent-adolescent problems, stress management and conflict resolution skills. The Self Improvement and Change class is available to those who intend to gain motivation and follow goals.
In Summary
Diversity Counseling and Education Center is Denver’s basic, no frills outpatient program. Rooted in therapy and the 12 steps, it offers affordable care to a population that often falls through the cracks when it comes to mental health. With the help of highly trained counselors and a 12-step foundation, clients can find a strong support system.
