The Basics
Deer Hollow, based out of Utah, is an addiction treatment program that specializes in PTSD and trauma. The residential track includes group and individual therapy and 24 hour a day care. Clients live in a luxury facility near a popular ski resort overlooking the Wasatch Valley. Treatment integrates evidence-based practices, biofeedback, elements of the 12 steps and Al-anon, and a variety of holistic approaches.
Accommodations and Food
Deer Hollow offers two, co-ed residential facilities that are both upscale and full of amenities. The larger of the two is a resort style, multi level house that can accommodate up to seven clients. The home, which is situated at the base of Brighton Ski Resort, has bedrooms that are semi private with en suite bathrooms, and combines rustic with modern perfectly. The other location is a single story home with a log cabin feel and five beds, one of them private.
These facilities are entirely furnished and comfortable with large dining rooms and kitchens, living rooms with wrap around couches and mounted TVs, fireplaces and new appliances, and a 22 seat home movie theater. The larger of the two locations also boasts an on-site gym and a separate building on the same campus where all treatment takes place. The other facility is also on the same campus as the outpatient treatment facility making the step down-process to outpatient care an easy transition.
All food is provided by Deer Hollow and prepared by a chef who makes sure to offer nutritious and tasty fare with several options at every meal.
Treatment and Staff
Clients work with staff to establish a goal plan for their stay, which is typically between 30 and 90 days. Treatment is based on a PTSD approach that includes EMDR and trauma focused therapy modalities. There is an on-site sensory room, neurofeedback and bio sound therapy. In addition, residents focus on self compassion, relaxation, stress reduction and shame resilience.
Programming consists of several group sessions each week and at least one individual session with a primary therapist. There are daily meditation sessions, recreational therapy and mind-body bridging. There are also several expressive therapies, like psychodrama, art and music therapy and therapeutic yoga. Additional approaches include DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and experiential therapy.
Staff of the residential program at Deer Hollow includes addiction specialists, psychologists, LCSWs, LMFTs, a medical provider and an RN.
Extras
Due to the rustic setting, clients have opportunities to enjoy a multitude of outdoor recreational activities that include snowshoeing, hiking and fishing. Equine therapy is also offered.
