Cedar Lodge Dreamstime photoCedar Lodge Review

Located in Guntersville, a small city in northern Alabama, Cedar Lodge operates as part of the Mountain Lakes Behavioral Healthcare network. For over 30 years, it has provided residential treatment services for substance abuse. Cedar Lodge is certified by the Alabama Department of Public Health.

Accommodations and Food

Cedar Lodge accommodates 16 men and 12 women, who are segregated in separate wings that branch out from the building’s central area. The middle section includes common rooms,  a living room, a dining room and a small office occupied by a mental health worker.

Residents are paired in gender-specific rooms that include twin-sized beds, cubby units, armoires and desks furnished with lamps and chairs. Each wing has a large dorm-style bathroom. A laundromat is provided on the premises.

Residents are served three hot meals per day, and are provided with a snack tray during the evening. The cook prepares an array of different cuisines, mainly Asian, Mexican and Italian dishes.

Treatment and Staff

Cedar Lodge offers a high-intensity short-term residential program that ranges from two to three weeks. Clients must have 72 hours of continuous sobriety to be admitted. Detox services are not provided but local referrals are made.

Cedar Lodge combines evidence-based treatment, the Living in Balance curriculum and the 12 steps. Residents are provided with individualized treatment plans and weekly treatment consists of individual therapy, group therapy and voluntary attendance at 12-step meetings. Group topics include processing, stress management, negative emotions and relapse prevention. Dual diagnosis support is provided during therapies. On-site AA/NA and Celebrate Recovery meetings are facilitated by local volunteers.

The cost of admission is $300 and can be broken into two payments. Although Cedar Lodge does not refuse anyone due to inability to pay, the program’s completion certificate will not be given to the resident until the balance is paid in full. For residents who provide proof of income, treatment costs vary from $0 to $180 per day, and they are eligible for a sliding fee scale. Without proof of income, cost varies from $60 to $180 per day.

Cedar Lodge employs three CADCs, two of them Bachelor’s-level and the other Master’s-level. The staff-to-client ratio is one-to-nine.

The rehab also offers a six-month Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) program that meets three times a week, for three hours at a time, and includes a mix of group and individual therapy. Residential clients are encouraged to enroll in IOP as their aftercare option, if needed.

Extras

Cedar Lodge aims to help the entire family recover from substance abuse by providing family and couples counseling services. A weekly GED preparation class is taught on the premises for residents who want to get their high school degree.

Cedar Lodge offers life skills training and preventive services for children and adults. Children participate in workshops designed to develop self-esteem and respect for others. Adult workshops include parenting classes, stress management and substance abuse awareness.

In Summary

Cedar Lodge works hard to provide substance abuse services to financially-challenged clients in Alabama. For those seeking comprehensive services in a short period of time, this rehab will suit their needs.
