brownsvilleBrownsville Community Residential Center Review

Brownsville Community Residential Center was founded in 1982 by Joseph Francois, a community leader who wanted to provide low-income individuals with the healthcare they needed and modern facilities at which to receive that care. BCRC serves the Brownsville and East New York sections of Brooklyn, New York and its federally qualified healthcare centers treat patients regardless of their ability to pay. In addition to providing medical services, BCRC operates a residential facility for those diagnosed with a chemical dependency problem.

Accommodations and Food

BCRC is a 21-bed coed facility for clients between the ages of 18 and 65. Floors are divided by gender, with women staying on the second floor and men on the third. Each room is shared between two clients with shared bathrooms on each floor.

The first floor of the residential facility has common areas used for meetings and a lounge with a TV. Meals are prepared three times a day and consist of healthy, but simple items—like cereal or toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and a meat and vegetable dish for dinner.

Treatment and Staff

While BCRC is primarily a sober living environment, treatment is available to aid clients in their recovery. Residents receive at least ten hours of group therapy sessions per week during their stay, with on-site 12-step meetings and individual counseling available. They are also required to attend a daily outpatient program to maintain their sobriety. The primary treatment at Brownsville is 12-step based.

The staff consists of a clinical director, CADCs, CSACs and case managers.

Extras

Although the residential facility itself does not have many extra amenities to offer, BCRC is a comprehensive health care facility and has a variety of medical services available ranging from surgical consultation to dentistry to adult medicine.

In Summary

BCRC is a sober living environment that goes above and beyond facilities of its type by helping their clients to recover and maintain sobriety. With weekly group therapy sessions, on-site 12-step meetings and individual counseling, those seeking a thorough and affordable treatment plan need look no further than BCRC.
