Brentwood Meadows Review
Brentwood Meadows is a newly built psychiatric and chemical dependency hospital in Newburgh Indiana that provides inpatient (full hospitalization), Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for adults suffering from co-occurring disorders. Brentwood is part of the Springstone network of hospitals, the first of which was founded in 2010 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Accommodations and Food
Brentwood boasts a park-like campus located six miles outside of Evansville, and has room for a total of 48 residents. For those in the inpatient track, each room comes with two twin-sized beds, a private bathroom, individual closet space and desks. The hospital is handicap accessible throughout, and also features outdoor pavilions and activity spaces, fitness equipment, snack stations and a theater-style classroom.
The hospital has a cafeteria with a variety of food choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Drinks and snacks are available to all residents before, between and after meal times, and a registered dietician is available to help residents plan their diets (with support for dietary restrictions).
Treatment and Staff
Brentwood offers individualized treatment for their inpatient clients which includes clinical and medical assessments, psychiatric stabilization and rehabilitative care. Medical detox is available for those who need it.
Once clients are stabilized they can move on to either the PHP or IOP program. PHP puts clients through structured therapy for five to six hours a day, five days a week with medication management. IOP, on the other hand, runs nine to 15 hours and meets three times weekly.
Treatment in all the above options includes psychotherapy, educational groups, and recreational therapy through games, crafts, leisure education, creative expression, relaxation training and other specialty groups. Brentwood’s treatment model is evidence-based and combines Hazelden’s programming with motivation enhancement therapy, reality therapy (which focuses on becoming present, letting go of the past and moving forward), CBT, DBT and 12-step.
The hospital has psychiatrists, psychologists, and staff nurses to provide medical support diagnosis and treatment planning. There are also care assistants who provide emotional and medical support to clients through their daily routines, as well as therapists and social workers for individual and family therapy.
Speciality staff includes recreational and expressive therapists to help clients achieve social and physical goals. Finally, each client gets a therapist who will also function as the primary case manager.
Extras
As mentioned above, recreation, art and music therapy groups are provided for all programs including the outpatient and PHP tracks. Other services include nutrition counseling, work out activities and yoga. One bonus in particular is Brentwood’s pet therapy option, which is guided interaction between clients and a trained animal (with assistance from the animal’s handler).
When it comes to aftercare, Brentwood offers an online recovery tracking program that clients can use after treatment ends to learn more about addiction and take note of their milestones in sobriety.
In Summary
While Brentwood Meadows is relatively new, it still comes backed by their parent company of Springwood hospitals. The facility offers impressive individualized treatment plans for co-occurring disorders, with support for 12-step programs as well. While being a hospital necessarily means a more expensive experience, those who can afford it will find a well-rounded and comprehensive approach to recovery.
