AspenRidge Recovery Review

AspenRidge Recovery provides substance abuse and addiction treatment services for men and women over the age of 18. AspenRidge, located amid the Rocky Mountains in the Denver suburb of Lakewood, Colorado, was founded in March 2014. It uses the Florida Treatment Model, which provides clients with a sober living environment while attending an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

Treatment and Staff

Treatment typically lasts 90 days. Prior to admission, a psychiatric evaluation is completed. Should a resident require medication for co-occurring disorders, the cost is covered by AspenRidge. The cost of treatment includes housing, food, psychiatric evaluation and medication fees. The rehab doesn’t provide detox, but can offer referrals to nearby facilities.

AspenRidge employs a CBT approach and traditional talk therapy as therapeutic modalities during IOP, as well as somatic experiencing (for trauma) if needed. Weekly treatment includes four group sessions, four individual therapy sessions, educational lectures and mandatory attendance at on-site 12-step meetings. Groups are offered in both coed and gender-specific formats. Group topics include relationships, family dynamics, trauma, relapse prevention and Big Book study. Educational lectures cover topics such as the brain’s biochemistry after addiction and substance abuse awareness. Group therapy accommodates between eight and 10 clients while lectures have a minimum of 11 attendees.

A typical day’s treatment schedule includes morning meditation from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, individual therapy and processing group from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, a 12-step based group from 11 am to noon, followed by lunch. After dining, residents attend an educational lecture that concludes at 3:30 pm. On Fridays, residents volunteer at the Food Bank of the Rockies.

Staff consists of an admission and outreach clinician, a Master’s-level certified addiction counselor, a director of client services, a psychologist, a certified addiction counselor III and three Master’s-level group counselors.

Extras

The sober living houses are in residential neighborhoods close to the main office. AspenRidge has a seven-bed capacity for women, and eight beds for men. Residents live in gender-specific houses and share rooms that accommodate between two and three beds. Furnishings are comfortable, creating a home-like atmosphere. Transportation is provided six days a week to the outpatient treatment facility.

Each resident is given a $100 weekly allowance for the purchase of groceries and cigarettes. Residents go grocery shopping in gender-specific groups, cook meals together and dine family-style in their houses. Smoking is allowed outside only.

The rehab partners with Phoenix Multisport, a local sober gym, to provide residents an opportunity to work out for free and meet other people in recovery. Yoga classes are also offered for no charge.

On weekends, residents participate in local AA events and dinner outings.

In Summary

AspenRidge Recovery is a great option for those seeking long-term, comprehensive treatment services at an affordable price, providing the intensity of a residential program without the institutional experience.
