Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center Review

The Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center of Charlotte, North Carolina was first established by Rev. Jody Kellerman in 1958 under the name of the Alcoholism Information Center. Many years and many names later, the facility became known as Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center in 2008, offering affordable outpatient treatment to adolescents and adults for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.

Treatment and Staff

Anuvia’s treatment plans start with a thorough assessment by an intake counselor to determine the level of care needed. The counselor matches clients with one of the treatment options available in the outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) or offers a referral to another facility for detox and inpatient treatment.

Anuvia’s approach combines the 12 steps with CBT group therapy sessions. In any of the programs, clients are expected to attend a minimum of three outside AA or NA meetings per week in addition to therapy at the facility. CBT methods include DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Trauma-informed methods like EMDR are also employed, when necessary. Individual therapy is available per client request, though Anuvia often refers clients to outside professionals for additional individual sessions for specific needs.

The outpatient program is approximately five weeks long and about 40 hours in total. It includes psychoeducation about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the brain, and involves two group meetings per week for three hours at a time. There are day and evening schedules available for this program to fit individual clients’ needs.

The IOP meets for a total of nine hours per week for approximately 12 weeks, and offers an aftercare program for an additional nine weeks, requiring just one meeting per week. This is the minimum level of treatment recommended for those requiring dual diagnosis support. The client and counselor decide how long treatment is necessary.

Anuvia also offers a program referred to as SACOT (Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment). This program meets daily from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm and provides comprehensive relapse prevention education based on the Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT) model. This program is initially 12 weeks long, five days a week. It requires less time as it goes on, as clients meet personal goals that were set at the beginning of treatment.

A gender-specific adolescent program is offered at Anuvia for ages 12 to 17. Outpatient and IOP sessions are scheduled up to nine hours per week, and education covers coping skills, relapse prevention, STD awareness, goal setting and an introduction to the 12 steps.

Anuvia’s staff is made up of clinicians and counselors who are certified and licensed in addiction treatment, including licensed clinical addiction specialists (LCAS), licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) and licensed professional counselors (LPC).

Extras

Anuvia offers a family program weekly at the facility, welcoming and encouraging family members and supportive friends to attend. This gives clients and family an open and inviting environment to discuss challenges in recovery and provides education about the disease of addiction.

In addition to offering outside resources to clients, a 12-step meeting is available once daily on site at Anuvia.

In Summary

Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center offers a wide array of therapy and treatment options for individuals and families. With flexible treatment schedules and affordable payment plans, Anuvia is dedicated to serving those who desire to make healthy life changes.
